BIG AIR · FREERIDE

The big air kite that takes you higher

The Orbit is North's 5-strut kite for big air and freeride, proven in competition and in real-world conditions: wide wind range, effortless turning, great upwind ability and a smooth, energetic feel. The 2027 version keeps everything that worked and gains aerodynamic efficiency and quicker response: a renewed profile and bridle geometry for a more playful kite, with higher jumps, smoother flight and more precise turning. Pro-level technology so riders of all levels get more control in their jumps.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who it's for

  • Intermediate to advanced riders who want to jump higher and stay in the air longer.
  • Anyone starting out with kiteloops who wants a kite that flies forward and catches them quickly.
  • Freeride riders who want a single kite with plenty of wind range and powerful upwind ability.
KEY FEATURES

What makes it special

01 Renewed bridles, more playful feel

The new bridle geometry makes for a livelier, more fun kite, with higher jumps and more precise turning.

02 Forward, cambered profile

The profile, set further forward and with more camber, has been refined so the kite flies more smoothly.

03 Thinner leading edge

It turns faster and gives more vertical lift on take-off; it also improves light-wind performance.

04 5-point Response bridle

The extra bridle points support the thin leading edge, keep the light frame stiff and give a controlled, stable response, even in strong wind.

05 PTP2 transition panels

A single zigzag panel between the leading edge and the canopy reduces seam tension and leaves a cleaner profile.

06 High aspect ratio

The high-aspect design increases lift, power delivery and hangtime on every jump.

07 Thin, swept tips

The narrower, more swept tips give precise, highly reactive turning.

Where it shines: big air and jumping in strong wind, kiteloops and megaloops, and gusty freeride at any beach.

SIZES AND SPECS

Sizes and wind ranges

SIZE WIND RANGE
6 m 20+ knots
7 m 18 – 36+ knots
8 m 16 – 35 knots
9 m 14 – 32 knots
10 m 12 – 29 knots
11 m 11 – 27 knots
12 m 10 – 25 knots
14 m 8 – 22 knots

Ranges from North's official table for the Orbit 2027. If you're between two sizes, the bigger one gives you more power and hangtime and the smaller one more control and turning speed. To choose based on your weight and usual wind, see our kite size guide. Check the selector for the sizes and colours available in store.

CONCEPT

Thinner, lighter, higher

The N-Max2 frame allows a narrower, lighter leading edge, with more sweep and thinner tips. The kite flies faster, turns sooner and catches you earlier in kiteloops, while the extra bridles keep it stiff and stable when the strong wind kicks in.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology and construction

  • N-Max2 frame: light, strong pro-level material that gives more range, a smooth and consistent response, more direct turning and more dynamic recovery.
  • N-RS3 canopy: low-stretch triple ripstop fabric, UV-resistant, with an advanced coating and zero porosity: it lasts longer and holds its shape.
  • Contoured PTP2 panels: single zigzag transition panel that reduces seam tension and smooths the transition from the leading edge to the canopy.
  • Segmented arc: slightly narrower at the shoulders and wider at the tips to reduce drag and turn faster; the profile, slightly deeper in the centre, gives more lift.
  • Ultralite StitchHold: light, high-tenacity thread in the leading edge closing seam, more resistant to fatigue, impacts and wear.
  • Low Profile bridles: pulley-free, low-drag bridle lines, pre-stretched and measured before cutting for extra precision and to stop them shrinking or stretching.
  • AirLite bladders: lightweight bladders that reduce the overall weight of the kite.
  • 5-strut stability: the five struts support the canopy and keep the profile stable in strong wind, with more range and more control.
  • Includes: kite, bag, repair kit and sandbag.

COMPARE

Which one to choose?

  • Orbit Ultra: the fastest and most reactive Orbit, with N-u80 frame and 6 bridle points; for expert and competition riders seeking the ultimate in height and turning speed.
  • Orbit 2026: the previous version, with the same wind ranges per size; a good option if your size and colour are available.
  • Reach 2026: North's most versatile kite for freeride, light wind and waves; easier and more all-round if jumping isn't your main focus.

Pair it with: the North Navigator Control System bar and a big air twintip such as the Atmos 2027 or the Atmos Pro 2027 (we explain them in North 2027 boards).

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Which size of Orbit do I need?+

It depends on your weight, your board and your usual wind. As a guide, North gives the 9 m a range of 14 to 32 knots, the 10 m 12 to 29 and the 12 m 10 to 25. If you're torn between two sizes, write to us and we'll help you choose.

What's new compared with the Orbit 2026?+

The 2027 debuts a new bridle geometry and a refined forward profile, with a thinner leading edge, more sweep and narrower tips. The result is a more playful kite, with higher jumps, smoother flight and more precise turning. The wind ranges per size are unchanged.

What's the difference between the Orbit and the Orbit Ultra?+

They share the 5-strut big air concept. The Ultra uses the lighter N-u80 frame, 6 bridle points and a slightly higher aspect ratio: it is faster and more reactive. The Orbit is more affordable and easier to progress on.

Is it good for learning kiteloops?+

Yes. North presents it as a kite that gives confidence and control in big air manoeuvres for all levels: it flies forward and catches you quickly. You'll find tips in big air kitesurfing and in how to do a megaloop.

What's included?+

The kite, the bag, the repair kit and the sandbag. The bar is sold separately.
