Description
The lightest, sharpest Mantis
The Mantis earned its reputation for its range and versatility: it performs in waves, on downwind runs, in racing and on flat water. The Mantis Apex takes that performance to another level with Ultra HP material in the frame: 22% less weight in the frame and the ability to run at higher pressure, which allows a thinner leading edge without losing stiffness. The result is a cleaner profile and a more efficient wing.
Ultra HP frame · Sizes 4, 5 and 6 m · Wind 7 – 30 knots · Widespan handles
Who it's for
- Intermediate and advanced riders who want more response and less weight than a standard Mantis.
- Waves and downwind runs, where lightness and power control make the difference.
- Racing and flat water: the thin leading edge improves upwind performance and widens the speed range.
- Medium and light wind with the 5 and 6 m sizes we have in store.
What makes it special
01 Medium dihedral
An intermediate dihedral that balances power and stability, with precise handling and lots of feedback from the wing.
02 Tip twist
The refined tips let the wing breathe without losing tension in the canopy.
03 Thin leading edge
Thanks to Ultra HP, a slimmer profile: better upwind performance, more speed range and a very reactive frame.
04 Stiff centre strut
A single, very stiff strut to save weight and achieve predictable depower.
05 20/20 window
Weather-resistant TPU window for better visibility while riding.
06 Power under control
The combination of Ultra HP, refined profiles and tip twist gives very controllable power across a wide wind range.
Where it shines: waves, downwind runs, racing and fast freeride on flat water.
Sizes and wind ranges
| SIZE | WIND RANGE* | WING WEIGHT |
|---|---|---|
| 4 m | 15 – 30 knots | 1.83 kg |
| 5 m | 11 – 26 knots | 2.13 kg |
| 6 m | 7 – 20 knots | 2.45 kg |
*Official Cabrinha data (Mantis Apex 2023 spec sheet) for a 75 kg rider; wing weight without bag (may vary slightly). If you're heavier or ride in light wind, choose the 6 m; the 5 m is more manageable in gusts. In store we have the 5 and 6 m sizes: check the selector for available sizes.
Technology and construction
- Ultra HP: a light laminate that is very strong and stable at high pressure; it allows a leading edge 20% narrower than with standard materials.
- High-pressure frame: the leading edge is inflated to a higher pressure and, with the elastic behaviour of Ultra HP, the frame ends up light, stiff and narrow.
- Anti-twist widespan handles: positioned so you can fine-tune your hand position to the millimetre and fold the wing easily when you finish.
- Load Path panel layout: designed to control the loads and stretch specific to wingfoiling: a cleaner, more structural product.
- Dual Sprint valve: two valves connecting the centre strut to the leading edge for faster inflating and packing up.
- Nano Ripstop canopy: a stable, reactive fabric that underpins the design's performance.
- Pure Impulse front handle: for carrying it, manoeuvring it and controlling it on the wave with the wing in neutral.
- EVA Hi-Aero battens: light battens that stabilise the trailing edge.
The Mantis Apex on the water
Which one to choose?
- Mantis 2025: the fifth-generation Mantis, with Teijin D2 canopy and sizes from 2 to 6 m. A little heavier, but easier to find in exactly the right size.
- Vision 2025: more dihedral and a fuller profile: more low-end power for light wind and freestyle.
- AER 2025: Cabrinha's ultralight, simple wing for freeride and waves in light wind.
Pair it with: the ION Wing Leash Core Coiled Wrist wrist leash and the ION Wing Harness Line harness lines for long runs.
Frequently asked questions
5 or 6 m?+
For a 75 kg rider, Cabrinha rates the 5 m from 11 to 26 knots and the 6 m from 7 to 20 knots. If you weigh more than 80 kg or your usual wind is light, go for the 6 m; if you ride in medium wind with gusts, the 5 m.
How does it differ from a regular Mantis?+
It shares its versatile DNA, but the Ultra HP frame saves 22% of the weight in the frame and takes more pressure, with a thinner leading edge: the Apex is lighter, stiffer and more direct.
What is Ultra HP?+
A light, very strong laminate that handles high pressure better. It allows the leading edge diameter to be reduced without losing stiffness.
Is it for beginners?+
It's designed for performance. If you're just starting out, the Vision or the standard Mantis are more forgiving and will help you progress faster.
