Unhooked freestyle on 5 lines

The Razor v9 is Airush's freestyle and wakestyle kite, designed with world champion Alex Pastor to deliver spectacular pop and line slack for unhooked tricks. It keeps the precision and feel of a 5-line C kite, but it's easier and jumps higher: in this version the 7, 8, 9 and 10 m sizes debut a new shape and improve in big air.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who it's for

  • Freestyle and wakestyle riders who do unhooked tricks and want pop and line slack.
  • Anyone who wants a 5-line C kite, with a direct feel and a stable position for the park.
  • Big air and loop riders who prefer small, highly responsive sizes.
  • Advanced level.
KEY FEATURES

What makes it special

01 Unhooked performance and unrivalled precision

Explosive pop and plenty of line slack for passing the bar, with pure C-kite precision.

02 New generation: freestyle and big air on 5 lines

A blend of 5-line freestyle and big air that keeps the C-kite character and adds more lift.

03 More jump in the small sizes

The 7, 8, 9 and 10 m sizes have a new shape and improve in big air and loops; the larger sizes remain focused on freestyle.

Where it shines: unhooked freestyle and wakestyle, park and, in the small sizes, big air and kiteloops.

Official Airush data for the Razor v9; it needs a 5-line bar. If you're between two sizes, the smaller one is faster and jumps better, and the bigger one gives more power for freestyle. We can help with our guide to choosing your kite size. We have the 7 m size left in store in navy and red: check availability in the selector.

CONCEPT

The fifth line, the key to a pure C

The fifth line is the only support a true C kite needs: it allows a thinner leading edge and gives the Razor the combination of speed, pop and slack that unhooked tricks demand. What's more, moving the back lines changes its character: towards the leading edge it's stable and calm for wakestyle; towards the trailing edge it turns very fast for jumping and looping.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology and construction

  • Load Frame v4 with WebTech: a structure of high-modulus polyethylene tape that replaces Dacron in many areas: more strength with less weight.
  • Integrated high-modulus polyethylene threads: ultralight threads, each able to withstand 40 kg, that absorb impacts like a spider's web and stop the canopy from stretching.
  • Technoforce D2 canopy: used together with the Load Frame; in Airush's tests it is the canopy material with the least stretch, the most UV stability and the most long-term reliability.
  • XL inflate/deflate valve: a large opening to inflate and deflate very quickly, with less effort for you and the pump.
  • SPS valve and FBI inflation: single-point inflation with thicker, wider tubes that don't kink; the cover protects the tubes from the sun and when folding.
  • Airush protectors and Kevlar reinforcements: protection on the leading edge against abrasion and Kevlar only in the critical areas to extend the kite's life without adding weight.
  • Turning speed adjustment: several positions for the back lines: stable for wakestyle or very fast for jumps and loops; the number of options varies by size.
  • Bar pressure adjustment: positions on the leading edge to choose the feel and response at the bar before you hit the water.
  • Recycled polyester bag: made with Waste 2 Wear from recycled plastic bottles.

COMPARE

Which one to choose?

  • Razor Team AP 2015: a Team Series construction Razor with an aramid Load Frame, in 11 m. A more classic C kite, without the v9's big air improvements.
  • Razor Team 2013: the 2013 competition Razor, in 7 m, for anyone looking for a pure 5-line C.
  • Lift v3: if your priority is jumping high rather than unhooked tricks: 4 lines, more lift and more hang time.

Pair it with: a freestyle and park twintip such as the Livewire V8 or the Livewire Team V8. It needs a 5-line bar: ask us about compatible options.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Which Razor v9 size is right for me?+

According to Airush, the 7 m covers 19 to over 40 knots, ideal for strong wind and big air; the 9 m 14 to 30 knots and the 13 m 10 to 22 knots. Sizes of 10 m or less are more jump-oriented and the larger ones more freestyle-oriented.

Can I use it with a 4-line bar?+

No. The Razor is a 5-line C kite and needs a 5-line bar; the fifth line is its support. Ask us about compatible options.

What's different from other Razors?+

In the v9, the 7, 8, 9 and 10 m sizes have a new shape and better big air performance, with Load Frame v4 and WebTech. The 2013 and 2015 Razor Team kites are more classic C kites, focused on freestyle and wakestyle.

Is it a kite for learning?+

No. It's a high-level freestyle kite, designed for riders who have already mastered jumps and unhooked tricks.
