Description
The first double-surface Airush
The Ultra Team DS is Airush’s lightweight high-performance kite for foil, freeride and waves. It combines single-strut geometry with a new thin, high-pressure double-surface (DS) leading edge and a very tight canopy: an efficient flying machine that pulls hard, flies forward in the window and performs exceptionally in light wind. It’s more reactive, faster and lighter than the Ultra, reinforced with H2 Ultra PE.
Double surface · H2 Ultra PE · Sizes 7 – 17 m · Wind 5.5 – 30 knots
Who it's for
- Foil riders who want the most efficient kite to get out in very little wind.
- Anyone who rides light-wind freeride and wants to go further upwind and jump higher with the same size.
- Wave riders looking for a light kite that drifts well.
- Intermediate and advanced riders who want the latest in Team Series construction.
What makes it special
01 Light, single strut
Single-strut design for foil, freeride and waves: less weight, more efficiency and better light-wind behaviour.
02 Double-surface leading edge
The second surface under the leading edge eliminates turbulence: more glide, more speed, better upwind ability and more wind range.
03 H2 Ultra PE and Load Frame
H2 Ultra PE leading edge and Load Frame structure: more strength and less weight, with a more direct feel.
Where it shines: foil in very light wind, light freeride with jumps, waves in light wind and twintip in the large sizes.
Sizes and wind ranges
| SIZE | WIND RANGE | BAR | WEIGHT* |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 m | 14 – 30 knots | 48 cm | 1.99 kg |
| 8 m | 13 – 29 knots | 48 cm | 2.17 kg |
| 9 m | 12 – 28 knots | 48 cm | 2.31 kg |
| 10 m | 11 – 25 knots | 48 cm | 2.54 kg |
| 12 m | 9 – 22 knots | 48 – 55 cm | 2.96 kg |
| 14 m | 6.5 – 18 knots | 48 – 55 cm | 3.24 kg |
| 17 m | 5.5 – 16 knots | 48 – 55 cm | 3.71 kg |
*Actual weight may vary by 5% due to manufacturing tolerances. Data from the official Airush sheet, calculated for an average 75 kg rider; the Bar column is the recommended bar length (Airush lists the Team Control System v3 as the ideal bar). If you’re heavier, size up; if you’re lighter, the opposite. To choose a size based on your weight and usual wind, see our kite size guide. Double surface on the leading edge
A lower surface comes off the underside of the leading edge and runs for about 30% of the chord before joining the canopy. The resulting profile is more aerodynamic: it generates more lift with less drag, which is why it goes further upwind and jumps higher. All of this on a thinner, stiffer H2 Ultra PE frame.
Technology and construction
- Double Surface (DS) leading edge: a double surface that smooths the airflow: more acceleration, less drag and a smaller-diameter leading edge and strut to cross the window faster and generate more apparent wind.
- H2 Ultra PE: new generation of woven Ultra PE, with 30% more Ultra PE yarn than Ho’okipa: much stronger and up to 30% lighter, with the same impact-proof durability.
- Technoforce D2 canopy: double-coated, double-ripstop high-tenacity polyester: protects against sun and abrasion so the canopy stays tight and reactive for a long time.
- Load Frame: ultra-high-modulus yarns that carry the canopy’s main load, prevent it from stretching and extend its performance.
- WebTech: ultra-high-modulus tapes that replace Dacron in key areas: more strength with less weight.
- Single Strut Geometry: Airush’s single-strut geometry, with a high-tension canopy to fly forward in the window.
Which one to choose?
- Ultra Team V5: the previous generation, single surface with a Ho’okipa leading edge. Very light and excellent in light wind, but without the extra upwind ability and range of the DS.
- Ultra V5: the Ultra without Team Series construction: simpler, with rounded tips for effortless relaunch and sizes from 4 m; ideal for schools and for getting started in foil.
- Lithium Team V14: if you’re looking for a three-strut kite for all-round freeride with the same Team Series construction.
Pair it with: the Magnum Control System v2 bar (48 or 55 cm) and, for foil, the Team Foilboard v5 board.
Frequently asked questions
Which Ultra Team DS size do I need?+
For a rider of around 75 kg: the 9 m covers 12 to 28 knots and is the most versatile foil size; the 12 m goes down to 9 knots and the 14 and 17 m get going in 6.5 and 5.5 knots. With a foil you can use several sizes smaller than with a twintip.
What does the double surface bring?+
According to Airush, two things above all: better upwind ability, because the profile cuts through the wind with less drag, and higher, more controlled jumps, because it generates more lift. It also gains speed and wind range.
How does it differ from the Ultra Team V5?+
The V5 has a single surface and a Ho’okipa leading edge. The DS adds the second surface and moves to H2 Ultra PE, which is stronger and lighter.
Is it suitable for twintip?+
Yes. The large sizes (12, 14 and 17 m) give power on very light days and, thanks to the double surface, go upwind better than a classic Ultra.
Does it include a bar?+
No. The bar is sold separately; we recommend the ones listed under “Pair it with”.
