Description
Stiff carbon, instant response
Sonar mast in top-quality pre-preg carbon: stiffer and more direct than aluminium, with a more immediate response. Its tapered shape improves load transfer and reduces drag in the water, and being carbon it does not corrode. Two lengths and GeoLock connection.
Pre-preg carbon · CF72 · CF85 · Tapered shape · GeoLock connection
Who it's for
- Riders moving from aluminium to carbon who want more stiffness and a more direct feel.
- Prone foil surfers and shallow-water riders (CF72).
- Wave and wingfoil riders looking for more height and all-round performance in rough water (CF85).
- Anyone who wants a durable mast that will not corrode.
What makes it special
01 Top-quality pre-preg carbon
A stiffer, more direct feel, with a more immediate response.
02 Tapered design
It optimises load transfer and reduces drag in the water.
03 Robust and corrosion-free
Durable and corrosion-resistant, suitable for every discipline.
04 Two lengths
CF72 for shallow water and prone surf foiling; the longer CF85 for better all-round performance in waves.
05 GeoLock
The Sonar system's tapered geometry lock connection between mast and fuselage.
Where it shines: wingfoiling, prone surf foiling, waves and all-round riding.
Lengths and recommended use
| SIZE | LENGTH | USE RECOMMENDED BY NORTH |
|---|---|---|
| CF72 | 72 cm | Shallow water and prone surf foiling |
| CF85 | 85 cm | Better all-round performance in wave conditions |

Technology and construction
- Pre-preg carbon: carbon fibre with the resin already incorporated, cured under control for a stiff, light and consistent mast.
- Tapered shape: the profile narrows to transfer load better and reduce drag.
- GeoLock: tapered geometry lock that joins mast and fuselage as a single piece and spreads the load across the whole section.
- Sonar system: compatible with the fuselages, front wings and stabilizers in the Sonar range.
Which one to choose?
- Sonar AF Foil Mast 2027: aluminium, tougher against knocks and high loads, with more lengths (55 to 85 cm).
- Sonar UHM Foil Mast 2027: ultra-high-modulus carbon, more than 15 % thinner and even stiffer, for maximum performance and racing.
- Sonar UHM Carbon Mast 2027 (UHM73): 73 cm with North's shortest chord, a specialist in prone surf foiling, pumping and downwind.
- Sonar Carbon Foil Mast: the Sonar carbon mast from previous seasons.
Pair it with: Sonar Fuselage+ 2027 or Sonar Carbon Fuselage, the Sonar SF v2+ 2027 wing, Sonar S185 and Sonar S215 stabilizers, North Vert or North Swell Pro boards and the carbon mast cover.
Frequently asked questions
CF72 or CF85?+
North recommends the CF72 for shallow water and prone surf foiling, and the CF85 to improve all-round performance when there are waves.
What is the difference between CF and UHM?+
Both are pre-preg carbon, but the UHM uses ultra-high-modulus carbon and is more than 15 % thinner in the submerged section and stiffer: faster and more efficient, designed for maximum performance.
Is it compatible with my Sonar parts?+
Yes, it features GeoLock and works with Sonar fuselages, wings and stabilizers. If you are just starting out, it may help to read what a hydrofoil is and how it works.
