The best kitesurf films
Antandroy - By F-One
It's a film shot in 2012 and, despite its age, it's one of the best kitesurf films out there. A film that sails the seas of Madagascar, making the most of its gusts of wind and waves.
The Atandroy, the nomadic people who give the film its name and who live in the arid south of the island, in the region called Androy, form part of the lead cast alongside the F-One team. During filming, the nomadic people and the team of kitesurfers share their two worlds: the F-One team wants to share the passion for kiting while the Atandroy open the doors of their home to them. They surf in extreme and beautiful places that will inevitably have you glancing at your board.
HIDDEN LINES Chapter I - CHILE
A trip and your three best friends: what will happen? That's what the Hidden Lines trilogy is about. Three kitesurfers looking for adventure on a crazy trip full of extreme situations, parties and lots of kitesurfing.
The 3 kitesurfers Nick Jacobsen, Youri Zoon and Kevin Langeree have a wish list and travel to different countries to fulfil it. This first part of the trilogy takes place in Chile. They perform tricks on Lake Puclaro, at the foot of a mountain. They tour the best kitesurf spots in Chile on a road trip full of adventures worth telling and filming.
All the adventures of these athletes come with a soundtrack worthy of the best Hollywood films.
HIDDEN LINES - Chapter II - San Blas
Chapter II is for fans who didn't get enough of the first part, "Chapter I”, and got hooked on the crazy adventures of Kevin Langeree and co. This time they decide to have fun in the San Blas Islands, famous for attracting kiting tourism. An archipelago of 365 very small islands belonging to Panama, of which only 80 are inhabited. On one of these islands lives one of the oldest tribes in the world. In this new adventure they try, among other things, blind kitesurfing: the 3 stars perform their best tricks in the dark, something very rarely seen. The action and risk are such that Nick Jacobsen ends up in hospital.
HIDDEN LINES - Chapter III - Nitro City
The third and final part of the Hidden Lines saga. In Chapter III the stars are the same as in the previous instalments. In this last film they perform their tricks at the best kitesurf park, Nitro City, Panama, the ideal place to end their adventures. In Chapter III we find something a bit different from the previous films: we get to see Youri, Nick and Kevin raising hell at the best parties in town.
Without doubt the best film of the three. Still, we recommend watching the trilogy from start to finish to get to know the stars better, who are sure to entertain you. A perfect dose of motivation before going out to fly your kite.
Girls, alcohol and kitesurfing are what await you on this last trip, summed up in 20 minutes.
Chapter I - The kiteboard legacy begins
This is quintessentially one of the best films, if not the best kitesurf film in history. It's backed by production companies such as Red Bull Media House and EyeForce, and sponsors such as WeTransfer.
This hour-and-a-half feature perfectly conveys the essence of kiteboarding; in it we can see the incredible variety and diversity of this sport.
If the trailer felt too short, you can always buy or rent the full Chapter I film.
The creators of 'Hidden Lines' (discussed earlier in the post) now take on a feature-length kiteboarding film (1h:23min) in 4K. This film features iconic locations such as Fiji, Hawaii, Necker Island, Brazil and Cape Town. A group of champions chase the most fearsome storms, ride the biggest waves and pull off dizzying stunts.
Chapter One lets you experience how kiteboarders from all walks of life have found the ultimate feeling of freedom in this sport. We can see professionals using the best kite products, such as Duotone kite bars. Sit back, grab some popcorn and rent or buy the full film (01 h 23 min)
This kite film features champions of the calibre of Nick Jacobsen (a kitesurfer who has set several kitesurf Guinness records), Richard Branson, Robby Naish, Liam Whaley and many more.
Seeking Cloud Nine
Liam Whaley, kitesurf world champion in 2015, is the star of this film released on YouTube, Seeking Cloud Nine.
The Tarifa (Cádiz)-based freestyle kitesurfing world champion, Liam Whaley, made this film with the industry's best producers to create this wonderful short of over 8 minutes. The privileged location that had the pleasure of hosting Liam's board was Greece. Paradise beaches, unbeatable views and crystal-clear water. Seeking Cloud Nine, also known as "In search of seventh heaven”, has an underlying aim of showcasing this extreme sport with dreamlike images and dizzying flights.
We'll see the Spanish kitesurfer make jumps as high as the Tower of Pisa and impossible tricks both on the water and in the sky.
Remember that the Ibiza-born rider, now settled in Tarifa, became kitesurfing world champion in 2015 at just 18. The idea for the filming location came from the kitesurfer himself, who fell in love with the country's incredible beaches and culture. So a year later he went back, but this time with a production team. Liam was willing to invest his own money to make this project happen.
MANERA - KORORO
Four world-class professional kiteboarders land in Kamchatka, Russia, with a small team of two photographers and a camera operator.
Their four boards will ride the seas of a large volcanic peninsula of more than 270 thousand square kilometres. A peninsula with history, a military zone in the Second World War. This meant the area was closed to the public until the 1990s. Now Mallory de la Villemarque, Paul Serin, Camille Delannoy and Maxime Chabloz will show you, through their tricks, the authenticity and untouched purity the place still retains. We'll also see Paul and co. practising wing foil, one of the kitesurf disciplines that is in fashion.
GIFT - by F-One
F-One is not only a manufacturer of kite gear but also of other disciplines such as Foil, Surf Foil, Wing Surf or Stand up paddle. This time, as usual, it brings us another kite film, and we say another because this company creates plenty of very high-quality audiovisual content. Kitesurfing is like a gift, just as the name of this instalment "Gift” says: the gift nature gives us in the form of wind, ocean and waves. If nature gifts us the sea, F-One tries to give something back with a 9:38 min short film shot in Mauritius
Upwind- Launch of a sport (History of kitesurfing)
Although the playback quality is somewhat low, its content is very interesting. Almost an hour of film telling in detail the evolution of this water sport, from its origins to the present day. A must-watch for kiteboarding lovers.
