It's the fabric's ultraviolet protection factor: with UPF 50 or 50+, the fabric lets through less than one fiftieth of UV radiation. Even so, use sunscreen on any exposed skin.
Which size should I choose?
A rash guard for the water should fit snugly, without bagginess, so it doesn't balloon or chafe when paddling. Use the chart above; if you're between two sizes and want it for everyday wear, choose the larger one.
Can it be worn under a wetsuit?
Yes, a snug rash guard under your wetsuit prevents chafing on the neck and armpits. If it's made of a thicker fabric or designed for hybrid use, check it against your wetsuit size first.
