Description
The Machadocado in a long version
The Xtra Cado is the mid-length evolution of the Machadocado, Rob Machado's best-selling board. It has plenty of volume to paddle and glide, a double concave to go rail to rail with ease and a very thin squash tail that is surprisingly responsive.
7'0" × 21 1/2" × 2 5/8" · 44.4 L · Helium · 5 boxes
Who it's for
- Days when you don't feel like fighting the waves and want to glide and draw long turns.
- Surfers looking for something between a longboard and a shortboard.
- Anyone who wants to try twin, thruster or quad on the same board.
What makes it special
01 Stretched outline
The Machadocado outline lengthened and straightened: lots of glide, very floaty and easy to surf.
02 Single to double concave bottom
Deep single concave that runs into a double concave with panels towards the rails to make transitions easier.
03 Thin squash tail
A wide but very thin squash, like the Machadocado: it responds rail to rail and tightens your turns in the pocket.
04 Five fin boxes
Quad in bigger waves, twin in small waves or thruster when you want to attack.
Where it shines: small and medium waves, mellow days and long walls for open turns.

“It's for the days when you don't feel like working so hard, or when the waves don't give you the green light to push. Glide, draw a couple of long turns and keep the day simple”
Technology and construction
- Helium: stringerless EPS core, with flex controlled in the rails by paulownia and balsa wood. Light and lively underfoot, it generates speed easily in everyday waves.
- Parabolic flex: according to Rob, the wooden rails give drive on rail and control in critical sections.
- Fins: Rob rides it with the Machado Seaside Quad set; other team riders use the Machado 2 + 1.
The Xtra Cado in the water
Which one to choose?
- Firewire Seaside & Beyond 7.0: a long swallow-tail fish, set up as a quad; the Xtra Cado is more versatile in fin setups.
Pair it with: Firewire Machado Seaside Quad fins, Firewire Machado 2 + 1 fins and Firewire Midlength/Longboard mesh board sock.
