Duotone's World Cup wave board

The Cosmic (4) D/LAB is Duotone's World Cup quad wave board for advanced and expert riders, from Maui to Cape Town and from Brittany to Mauritius. It's made to order in Full Custom D/LAB with its matching fins included. The shape combines the Synced Curves concept, the 3-stage rocker and the «stable but radical» concept (1-2 cm more width and more outline curve). For 2027 it adds asymmetric side fins, a lamination 100-200 g lighter, more nose rocker, a reworked tail and a sharper rail line.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who it's for

  • Advanced and expert wave riders.
  • Sailors riding ground swell in side-shore or side-offshore wind, or in strong current.
  • Riders who want the World Cup board built to order.
KEY FEATURES

What makes it special

01 Full Custom D/LAB

CNC-shaped with a high-end lamination on a proven shape: a great weight-to-strength ratio.

02 Unmatched range

A new shape concept that feels as stable and efficient as a board 5 litres bigger and as radical on the wave as one 5 litres smaller.

03 AI_Board_3D

Duotone's own 3D design software, more precise and faster, makes complex designs like the Synced Curves concept possible.

04 In-house board production

All boards are now CNC-shaped in Duotone's own factory: better weight-to-strength ratio, higher quality and more precision.

05 World Cup wave designs

Designed for spots all over the world, with the focus on powerful ground swell right through to windy European waves.

06 In-house fin production

The fins are made in Duotone's factory with three different technologies, chosen according to each fin's length and use.

Where it shines: ground swell in side-shore to side-offshore wind, windy European waves and spots with strong current. It's not designed for onshore wind.

Sizes and volumes from Duotone's official spec sheet. Duotone does not yet publish the width, length, board weight or maximum sail size for each volume of this version on its website: ask us and we'll confirm them. If you're between two volumes, write to us with your weight, your level and your spot. Check the selector for the sizes and colours available in store. Sizes 74 and 78 in the selector are not listed on the official Cosmic (4) D/LAB spec sheet: ask us. Duotone recommends: small board for strong wind, your weight in kg + 0 to 5 litres; main everyday board, your weight + 5 to 10 litres; big board to float and surf in light wind, your weight + 10 to 15 litres. With the new shape, team riders use boards about 5 litres bigger than before.

CONCEPT

Prototypes and production boards, built the same way

Every prototype is built in Duotone's factory with the same materials as the production boards, so weight and lamination stay consistent and controllable. Full Custom D/LAB uses carbon and Innegra/Kevlar for the lowest weight and the most direct feel.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology and construction

  • «Stable but radical» concept: 1-2 cm more width and more outline curve: it floats through the white water like a board 5 litres bigger and carves like one 5 litres smaller.
  • New for 2027: asymmetric side fins, lamination 100-200 g lighter, more nose rocker, reworked tail and a sharper centre-front rail line.
  • Synced Curves concept: rocker, outline and rail curve are synchronised along the whole board, designed with AI_BOARD_3D.
  • 3-stage rocker: flat centre section between the footstraps, nose rocker starting just in front of the front footstraps and a tail that kicks up in the last 4-5 cm.
  • Bottom: V double concave in the front, flat double concave under the feet and single concave towards the tail.
  • Narrow outline: narrower nose and tail than the Grip: more control at high speed in ground swell and big waves.
  • Fins: prepreg on the long fins, G10 on the centre wave fins and injected CARBO_TECH on the short side fins. Duotone recommends using only the fins supplied with the board.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which volume should I choose?+

Duotone recommends: small board for strong wind, your weight in kg + 0 to 5 litres; main everyday board, your weight + 5 to 10 litres; big board to float and surf in light wind, your weight + 10 to 15 litres. With the new shape, team riders use boards about 5 litres bigger than before. If in doubt, write to us with your weight and your spot.

Quad or tri?+

The quad (Cosmic 4) grips more: ideal in side-shore or side-offshore wind, with strong current and for light riders or small boards; in onshore wind it feels slower. The tri (Cosmic 3) works better in side-shore to side-onshore wind and allows more vertical, looser turns; in big waves it asks for a more committed vertical style.

Cosmic or Grip?+

The Grip has less nose rocker, a wider nose and tail and a V bottom running the full length: it planes earlier and holds its speed better in slower waves. The Cosmic has more rocker, a narrower outline and a flat double concave: it needs more power, but turns harder and with more control in powerful ground swell. It's not designed for small onshore waves.

How long does a made-to-order board take?+

It's built after you place the order, with a maximum lead time of 18 weeks depending on Duotone's production slots. Write to us and we'll confirm the lead time.
